We all have the exact same spiritual potential. There is no one born with more potential for ‘enlightenment’ than another. We all possess the seed of the master inside of us. That is what the Buddha meant when he taught that every being holds a buddha seed inside themselves. Every person is connected to the wellspring of universal wisdom that is shared by all of humanity. And anyone can tap into it at any time. It all depends on us. We are the only ones that can actualize our spiritual potential and bring it to fruition.

 

It’s this crucial fact that makes every moment of our lives so special. The choice we make in each moment, to be enlightened or to remain ignorant, to be conscious or remain asleep, to act wisely or ignorantly. We’ve got the whole world in our hands. If only we would realize it, wake up out of our current disempowered dream and smell the beauty of the roses that is our birthright—our capacity to change the world every second with how we think, act, and live.

 

The thing about being human is this: we aren’t perfect. Human beings aren’t gods, demi-gods, or angels. We have both light and darkness in our hearts. We make mistakes. Perfection is for the next realm, when our physical existence ends and we are reunited with the Source of All. But in our world, the world of duality, we are imperfect beings. And there is a reason for it. Making mistakes is part of the human journey. It doesn’t mean we are inherently evil, sinful or heinous. We were put on this earth to learn, grow, and evolve—and we learn the most from our mistakes.

 

If everything were perfect and predictable, life would be boring. If you knew you were going to win a game every single time, it would become mundane after a while, wouldn’t it? Let’s be honest: only 5-year-olds get thrilled at the prospect of winning a game every single time, without any challenge. There are no guarantees in life, and that is precisely what makes it so exciting! For the rest of us, the short-lived gratification at always winning with no challenges would quickly evaporate.

 

Some of life’s greatest satisfaction comes from overcoming obstacles to achieve a goal. From the moment we learn to walk, we constantly fall down. A young child often stumbles and falls to the ground while testing out the strength, capabilities, and limits of their limbs as they grow. One of the hardest lessons to learn in life is that failure is a part of the growing process. Some of life’s greatest lessons (and successes) come after our greatest failures.

 

Life is a moment to moment practice. We can create greatness, beauty, happiness, wealth, and love in any moment, and we can also make a mess of everything at any other time. The choice is ours. We are not separate entities flung about by the chaotic storms of life, at the whims of an unloving universe. You create and are in control of your life, and ultimately, you decide which circumstances and reality you’re going to experience.
